Town came from behind to claim a share of the spoils against Blackburn on the opening day of the 2012/13 Championship season.

An own goal from Jason Lowe secured Town a point, after Colin Kazim-Richards had earlier headed Rovers in front.

Paul Jewell recalled Josh Carson to the starting line-up in place of Jason Scotland, after returning from international duty.

Town made an encouraging start to the game, with Carson showing the intent of Blues with a rasping drive that sailed just over Paul Robinson’s bar as early as the fourth minute.

The visitors registered their first attempt on goal soon after though, with summer signing Kazim-Richards stinging the palms of Scott Loach in the Town goal with a low drive.

With the scorching heat playing a factor, chances were at a premium. However Blackburn did make a breakthrough after 21 minutes. A Morten Gamst Pedersen corner was headed back into the danger area by Scott Dann and Kazim-Richards was left unmarked inside the six yard box to nod the visitors in front.

Town did go close to an equaliser four minutes before half-time though, Aaron Cresswell seeing his well-hit free-kick tipped around the post by Robinson and behind for a corner.

Lee Martin was later denied by a fine save from the former England ‘keeper, tipping his 25-yeard drive behind for a corner, before the midfielder then saw a header sail just over the crossbar after finding himself in the mix following a centre from Massimo Luongo.

Kazim-Richards was proving to be Blackburn’s most attacking threat and the former Sheffield United man came close to doubling Rovers’ lead after 52 minutes. Collecting the ball just outside the area, the winger tried an audacious chip that nestled just over Loach’s bar and away from danger.

Three minutes later and Town had a great chance to level the scores. A neat run and shot from Carson was parried into the path of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas by Robinson, but the Town man hesitated on the ball and Dann was able to get back and make a block.

It was a long wait for the next chance to arrive and Town should really have drawn level. Lee Martin whipped in a cross and neither Michael Chopra nor Luke Chambers could apply the finishing touch with ten minutes remaining.

But Town did level the scores after 83 minutes. Good work from Chopra and substitute Jason Scotland saw the latter cross the ball which was turned into his own net by Rovers defender Jason Lowe.

Chopra then had a shot blocked as the clock hit the 90 minute mark as Blues applied the pressure, before Martin was denied by a last ditch tackle by Dann after a driving run into the box.

In the end Town were unable to find a winner and Paul Jewell’s side had to settle for a point. Blues are next in action on Tuesday night, travelling to Vicarage Road to take on Watford (kick-off 7.45pm).
