Town fans will get their chance to salute Suffolk’s Olympians and torch bearers before the game against Blackburn on Saturday, with close on 20,000 expected at Portman Road.
Blues’ Championship campaign gets underway against the recently relegated Premier League side, with a 3pm kick-off, but before a ball has been kicked, there is sure to be a roar of approval echoing around the ground.
Boxer Anthony Ogogo, who won a bronze medal in the middleweight category at London 2012, will be joining fellow Team GB members Elena Baltacha [tennis and daughter of former Town player Sergei],Harry Martin [hockey], George Pinner [hockey] and Louise Jukes [handball]in a walk around this pitch 15 minutes before kick-off.
Joining them will be more than 50 of the Olympic torch bearers who carried the flame through the county.
“I hope our fans will take their seats in time to salute the fantastic achievements of our Team GB athletes, as well as the torch bearers who were rewarded for their personal dedication by carrying the spirit of the Olympics through Suffolk,” said Town chief executive Simon Clegg.
“It will be a great opportunity for us to salute the achievements of them all and I’m sure our fans will give them a great ovation.”
The athletes and torch bearers will receive a special civic reception at Suffolk County Council's Endeavour House headquarters before making their way to Portman Road.
The game has been categorised as a Grade C game, with adult ticket prices set at £20, £25 and £30, apart from in Premium areas.
“Blackburn are obviously recently relegated from the Premier League and wouldn't normally be classed as a Grade C game but it's our first Championship match of the season and a good opportunity for us to offer the very competitive ticket prices,” added Simon.
Full ticket prices for 2012/13 can be found on the ticket prices page in the tickets section of the Club website.
