TOWN 0 COVENTRY 0

Posted on: Sun 14 Mar 2010

Town played virtually the whole game with only 10 men but shared the points and could have taken all three with Josh Carson and Billy Clark hitting the woodwork late on.

Blues got off to a difficult start when Callum Bennett was judged to be the last man following a trip on Callum Wilson and was subsequently sent off in the fifth minute of the game.

Despite being a man down Town held their own, keeping most of the play in midfield with Coventry not getting many goalscoring opportunities.

The best opening of the first half hour fell to Wilson but he headed Cyrus Christie's cross wide of the left post from only three yards out.

Nearing the end of a half, Town almost found themselves in front after a persistent run from Ronan Murray saw him beat Sky Blues 'keeper Michael Quirke to the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box but his headed effort went wide of the right post.

Murray found himself with another chance only minutes later but his shot was blocked by a defender into the 'keeper's hands.
Town started the second-half with very little of the ball but had a great chance to take the lead when Murray's cross from the right fell to an unmarked Clark at the back post but he guided his effort wide.

Blues started to struggle with Coventry having a great deal of the possession and this saw Tom Eastman come on to replace Rory McKeown.

Coventry could have been ahead through Wilson but his shot from just outside the 18 yard box was well saved by Ian McLoughlin.

The game began to open up with 20 minutes to go with Town having a few counter attacking chances but Caolan Lavery couldn't convert.

Town almost got the opener 15 minutes from time when David Cawley hit an optimistic volley from 40 yards which went just pass the left post.

Only minutes later it looked as if the Sky Blues would finish the victors but McLoughlin managed to claw team-mate Joe Whight's header off the line.

Blues' captain Luke Hyam was booked for a late tackle on William Roberts as the game began to get increasingly tense.
Town must have wondered what they had to do to get a goal after substitute Carson's 20 yard effort looked to be flying in the top corner but hit the left post instead and minutes later Clark hit the bar leaving the honours were shared.
