TOWN 2 LEEDS 2

Posted on: Sat 28 Aug 2010

A penalty from Caolan Lavery gave Town a share of the spoils against Leeds at the training ground.

Blues went ahead midway through the first-half after Aaron Jones headed home from a corner.

Leeds then scored two goals in quick succession with the first coming from Lewis Turner after a goalmouth scramble and the second from James Brooker who headed in from the back post from a free kick.

Town drew level late into the second-half with Lavery converting from the spot. The Irishman had a chance to open the scoring after 19 minutes after a cross from the left from Joe Whight was flicked back across goal from Tom Winter and met by Lavery eight yards out but his dinked effort went over the bar.

Town broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Leeds failed to clear a Sam Brandon corner which was headed back across goal by Jones into the top left corner of the goal.

Leeds' best goal scoring chance of the first-half came from a free-kick but Dominic Poleon hit it straight at Town 'keeper Cody Cropper.

Leeds started the second-half strongly, enjoying the majority of possession and had a good volley from Joe McCann blocked by Josh Meekings on the edge of the box.

Leeds made their first sub of the game 54 minutes in when Christian Palliat-Brigg replaced the injured Jonny Birbeck.

The Elland Road club had two chances to draw level, the first coming from Poleon but his effort was hit straight at the 'keeper and the second was sent wide by Sanchez Payne.

Leeds drew level in the 66th minute after a volley was saved by Cropper and rebounded out to Turner who scrambled the ball into the net. The goal was given despite heavy appeals for a handball.

Six minutes later Leeds went in front after a free-kick from Payne was crossed from the left to the back post to Brooker who headed back across goal and saw his header go in off the far post.

Both made substitutions with Brandon being replaced by Jack Simmons and Simon Renighan being replaced by Sam Byram.

Town made their second sub of the game in the 75th minute with Byron Lawrence being replaced by Lewis Acott.

After good work down the right Lavery cut inside and was tripped in the area by Ross Killock. The striker took the penalty himself and tucked it away to the keeper's right to level the scores 13 minutes from time.

Leeds made their final substitution of the game with Poleon being replaced by Dean Bartle.

Town almost scored a third minutes later when Callum Bennett's cross found its way to the front post but Alex Cairns managed to get behind it and send it out for a corner.
