CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S PROGRAMME NOTES V BURNLEY
Welcome to Portman Road for tonight's home game against Burnley. It's quite probable that the next two matches will determine our season. Following a hard fought draw away at Wolverhampton and a terrific second-half performance and win against Reading on Saturday, we are poised to make a final push for the Play-Offs.
A victory tonight and again on Saturday would be a tremendous boost. I would encourage all of us to give the team a fantastic support this evening. The 2000 or so of you who made the journey to Reading would have heard tremendous support for the home team, despite being a goal down, right through until the final whistle. Let's try and replicate that spirit here tonight. A spirit well demonstrated by our travelling fans on Saturday who were terrific in support of both the team and Jim.
Supporters who travelled to Reading would have seen a glimpse of Giovani Dos Santos who impressed for the 20 minutes or so that he was on the field. It is a great pity that Jon Walters' season is effectively over following his injury at Wolverhampton but we have moved quickly to find a top quality replacement and secure him for the rest of the season. I think this clearly demonstrates that we believe that our season isn't over and that we have a real chance to push for the Play-Offs. I know that Jim and the players believe that this is still very much possible.
At half-time this evening I will be receiving a cheque on behalf of the Club from the Britannia Building Society. Even in difficult financial times our Save and Support Account has earned the Club just over £783,328.08. This is a fantastic result driven by the loyalty of our supporter/investors. I would like to personally thank everybody who invests in the Britannia Save and Support Account as well as thank the Britannia Building Society itself for all the hard work that they put into keeping our customers satisfied.
Talking of customer satisfaction, I am delighted to say that Warner Duff who is the Club's Disability Liaison Officer has been nominated for the Fan of the Year Award at the forthcoming Football League Awards on 29th March. Warner has done a fantastic job on a voluntary basis for the Club for many years and being shortlisted for the awards says everything about his support and commitment. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Warner the best of luck on Sunday week.
Another example of the Club's continued commitment to the community was a 6-aside tournament held at the Club last week. The event was organised by the Club's Community Trust, together with Suffolk College, as a fundraising exercise for the Prince's Trust. Several local businesses and enterprises competed for the trophy and in the process raised £1,500 for the Prince's Trust.
The winning team came from Morgan Ashurst who beat Suffolk New College's PASE Scheme in the final and I was lucky enough to present the trophy to the winning team on Friday.
In closing, as always, I would like to welcome the supporters, directors and players of Burnley here tonight. They have all to play for as well so we should have a cracking game.
