CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S VIEW V COVENTRY
Posted on: Wed 20 Jan 2010
Welcome back to Portman Road. The start of a new year also marks the start of the second half of the season and brings with it the hope and excitement of capitalising on the positives from the first months of action.
Despite our poor position in the League table, it demonstrates how close the Championship is when you consider that we have only lost one of our last 14 League games.
December was an important month for the Club with good wins against Blackpool and QPR and draws, but good performances, against Bristol City and Peterborough. The only downside was the disappointing loss to Crystal Palace, with Jon Stead's rather harsh red card a contributory factor in that perhaps.
Add the excellent New Year win in the FA Cup against Blackpool and a very good performance at Leicester, who are in a the Play-Offs, and you can understand why the staff and players are upbeat about the rest of the season.
The last few weeks have proved a particularly challenging time for head groundsman Alan Ferguson and his team and they have done an outstanding job in the most difficult weather conditions that this region has experienced for many decades.
It is far too easy to think of the groundstaff's 'easy' times during the summer months but it is important to recognise the incredible professionalism, dedication and long hours which were required to ensure that today's pitch is in such an excellent condition and to make training areas available to the coaching staff and players at the training ground.
Looking further ahead to the summer I am delighted with the sales of the P!nk concert which is good for us. My expectation is that the event, which forms the final leg of her 'Funhouse Tour' will sell out, particularly after we announce the supporting acts within the next couple of weeks
Today I am delighted to welcome to the game some of Ipswich Town's greatest ever players, members of our Hall of Fame. In particular: Kevin Beattie, Ray Crawford, George Burley, Allan Hunter, Mick Mills, Ted Phillips and John Wark.
They will be joining us in the directors' box, following their meeting after they have to decided who else will be joining them in the Hall of Fame later this year
Finally I'd like to extend a warm welcome to the directors, players, manager Chris Coleman, coaching staff and fans of Coventry City to Portman Road today
Enjoy the game and let's hope for a cracking second half of the season.
