Town moved into the the top six despite being frustrated by form QPR.

Controversy was high as Town were denied two penalties and claimed a late corner had been bundled over the line, after Jordan Rhodes got a flick on with Blues also claiming a handball.

In a fast and flowing match, Town had the better of the play and but for a bit of luck, should have come away with all three points.

Blues made two changes from the victory over Scunthorpe with Pablo Counago starting his three-match ban, being replaced by Gavin Williams and Danny Haynes moving upfront. Manchester United loanee, Danny Simpson, was also brought in for his first start, at the expense of David Wright.

The first-half was played in explosive fashion, with both sides playing fast, attacking football, although it was Town who had the lion's share of the chances.

Haynes could have put Town one up inside ten minutes, but his shot after a jinking run rattled off the near post from a tight angle.

Haynes had another chance four minutes later, but his shot from Alan Lee's cutback whistled over the bar.

Jason De Vos nearly added to his impressive scoring record against QPR from an Owen Garvan corner, but Lee Camp was equal to his header.

QPR then broke away, with Rowan Vine's cross-shot being cleared off the line, and Hogan Ephraim's follow-up also being blocked by desperate Town defenders.

Town then produced a break of their own and the lively Haynes was once again denied, QPR 'keeper Camp making a good block down low.

After 22 minutes, Garvan caused havoc in the QPR box with a free kick, and the ball broke loose to Haynes who was again denied by the impressive Camp.

Ephraim curled a free-kick wide and Garvan found his shot blocked as the match continued at a furious pace.

Simpson picked up a booking for a late foul on Vine after half an hour. Lee then found himself clear on goal after a terrific block from Alan Quinn, but couldn't find the target.

There was controversy on the half-time mark, when Lee was shoved over by Michael Mancienne in the box, but referee Paul Anderson allowed play to continue. Williams however, couldn't take advantage, putting his shot over the bar with only Camp to beat.

Mancienne picked up an early booking in the second-half, after he crudely brought down Haynes.

QPR made their first change of the match on 56 minutes, with Martin Rowlands replacing Mikele Leigertwood.

The Hoops had the first real chance of the second-half on the hour mark, but Patrick Agyemang could only head into the sidenetting.

Town soon had another penalty appeal waved away, Lee once again going down under what looked like a push from Fitz Hall.

QPR made a second shuffle to their pack, Kieran Lee replacing Vine after 65 minutes.

Ipswich immediately came close to scoring as Lee caused Camp problems, but could not direct the ball goalwards.

Quinn's free kick with 15 remaining was well parried by a flying Camp, after Lee was shoved over on the edge of the box.

Jim Magilton made a change shortly afterwards, bringing Gary Roberts on for Williams and nearly went immediately in front, but Lee struck his shot straight at Camp.

Haynes went into the referee's notebook on 82 minutes, after kicking the ball away when penalised for a harsh foul.

Rhodes was thrown on with six minutes remaining in a bid to grab a late goal and almost made an instant impact, flicking a corner against the post, with the follow up from Velice Sumulikoski blocked on the line with Town players claiming it had gone over and also appealing for handball.

The draw takes Town into the top six, with a short trip to Colchester ahead next Saturday.
