Town suffered a second successive home League defeat and also finished the game with 10 men after Alex Bruce was dismissed for a two footed challenge.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave Wolves the lead with a header on 20 minutes and after Bruce had been sent-off by referee Steve Tanner for a challenge on David Jones, the visitors clinched the points with a close range finish from substitute David Edwards.

Ben Thatcher made his home debut for Blues in a team that showed only one change from the side that won at Burnley last week, Danny Haynes in for Liam Trotter.

Wolves started the brighter and maintained the upper edge through the first-half, Michael Kightly failing to take advantage of their first chance on seven minutes after Richard Naylor's header had fallen to him inside the box.

Veliche Shumulikoski had a left foot shot well wide as Town were reduced to shots from distance, Haynes failing to test Wayne Hennessey from 25 yards.

Chris Iwelumo warmed Richard Wright's hands with a powerful drive after a long run, Thatcher clearing the danger, then Naylor blocked well from Ryan Jarvis as the midlanders continued to create openings.

Mick McCarthy's side got the breakthrough on 20 minutes, neat play in midfield from Karl Henry, Davd Jones and Iwelumo created space for Jarvis on the left flank and his cross was headed past Wright by Ebanks-Blake.

Kevin Lisbie carried the main threat for Blues in the opening 45 minutes and from Haynes' pass he found half a yardto get a crack at goal that Richard Stearman deflected for a corner.

Shumulikoski picked up the first booking of the game for a foul as Wolves threatened to break, Iwelumo then stinging Wright's hands again with a shot from 18 yards, while at the other end Jon Walters went closest for Blues in the opening half with a dipping volley just over. Haynes bringing the half to a close by screwing his shot wide from inside the area.

Lee was replaced by Pablo Counago at the break, the Spaniard's touch immediately setting up Walters whose shot went straight at Hennessey. Counago then testing Hennessey with a right foot drive from the edge of the box.

Gareth McAuley did well to clear from Ebanks-Blake as the goalscorer looked favourite to get on the end of a through ball but Blues carried much more threat in the second-half, Counago's curler going straight at Hennessey.

Miller did well to win the ball in midfield and from his pass, Haynes crossed for Hennessey to hold as Lisbie threatened on the line.

Owen Garvan replaced Shumulikoski on 54 minutes, Counago adding his fourth effort at goal in 10 minutes, Hennessey getting down well to force the ball away from danger.

Kightly threatened a second for the visitors just short of the hour mark, his right foot effort goes inches wide of the far post.

Town pressed again down the right with Haynes winning his battle with George Elokobi, his cross was laid on to Miller by Counago, the shot half blocked with Miller's follow up cleared off the line.

Elokobi was immediately stretchered off after appearing to twist his ankle, Darren Ward the replacement with Ebanks-Blake making way for Edwards in a double change for McCarthy's side.

Wright produced a point blank save to deny Stearman heading in a free-kick as the game drifted into the last 20 minutes, Trotter replacing Haynes who limped off.

Town were reduced to 10 men soon after, Bruce dismissed for what referee Tanner deemed a two footed challenge on Jones and seconds later Wolves extended their lead,Edwards scoring from close range after Wright couldn't hold Henry's shot.

Wright's acrobatics kept out Edwards' volley soon after as Wolves looked to close the game out. Edwards booked for timewasting.

Wright held firm again to save from Edwards after Kightly had weaved his way into the box, then McAuley kept his nerve to clear from Edwards with the goal open.

Counago was denied by Hennessey again as he looked to get on the end of a Walters header and the Town striker let the frustrations get the better of him with a silly challenge on Ward that brought him a yellow card.

Andy Keogh replaced Kightly in the five minutes of added on time, with Jarvis rattling the post with the last opening of the game as Wolves continued their unbeatenstart to the season.
