Town were denied a first win of the season with Chris Morgan giving Sheffield a point with an equaliser in added on time after Blues were two goals up with 13 minutes left.

Darius Henderson gave Sheffield the lead on 10 minutes before Blues responded in style, Jon Walters, skipper for the night, levelling the scores midway through the half, then Mark Bunn letting Grant Leadbitter's strike from the edge of the box slip into the net.

Gareth McAuley's first goal for the Club on 70 minutes looked to have sealed the three points for Town but Henderson grabbed his second and Morgan earned his side a draw with a close range finish after a corner escaped Richard Wright.

Town made four changes to the side that went down to Newcastle on Saturday, McAuley coming in Pim Balkestein, Tommy Smith retaining his place after replacing the injured Alex Bruce with Alan Quinn and Jaime Peters coming in for Jack Colback and Damien Delaney.

Blues got off to the worse possible start. Liam Rosenior failed to clear the danger, a Blades' shot was blocked and Wright didn't deal with the ball in the air, Henderson forcing the ball in.

Morgan picked up the first yellow card for a foul on his former Sheffield team-mate, Quinn.  Alan's brother, Stephen, then tested Wright with a low shot the 'keeper pushed around the post, Tamas Priskin shooting wide at the other end.

Town were back on level terms on 23 minutes, Carlos Edwards crossed and Walters flicked the ball into the net via the post.

Priskin was yellow carded for a handball but it was Blues who began to dictate the play and Town were ahead on 33 minutes, Walters setting up Leadbitter whose shot lacked real power but slipped away from Bunn into the net.

Andrew Davies replaced the injured Matthew Kilgallon, Andy Taylor booked for handball as Sheffield struggled to lever the advantage away from Blues and Town should have extended the lead seconds before the break when Walters set up Quinn but the Irishman fired over from a great position.

Kyle Walker earned a third yellow card for Blades for a foul on Quinn as the second-half got underway, Blues making a first change with Jon Stead on for Priskin.

The former Sheffield United striker brought a save from Bunn within a minute of his arrival, while at the other end Wright did well to keep out a Quinn header.

Leadbitter and Walters almost set up Stead, Sheffield then making a second change with Glenn Little on for David Cotterill just past the hour.

Wright punched clear from Ched Evans as the Blades searched for an equaliser but it was Blues who struck with 20 minutes to go, McAuley timing his header to perfection from a corner.

Lee Martin replaced Quinn, Richard Cresswell on for Taylor before the Blades gave themselves a lifeline, driving in his second goal after Cresswell had set him up on 77 minutes.

Cresswell became the fourth Blade to be booked for a foul on Rosenior, Town making a final change five minutes from time with Pablo Counago on for Walters, Leadbitter taking the armband.

Little failed to convert at the far post, Wright then gathering from Little's cross under pressure from Cresswell but in added on time, Morgan salvaged a point for the Blades, converting after Town had failed to deal with a corner.

James Harper almost won it for Sheffield with virtually the last kick of the game, his shot going just inches wide as Blues were forced to settle for a point in a display that deserved three.

It was Town's second successive 3-3 draw on away territory with the point not enough to keep Blues off the bottom of the table following Plymouth's win at Peterborough..
