Carlos Edwards' first goal for the Club has lifted Town out of the bottom three with a well earned victory at Hillsborough.

The Trinidad and Tobago international thundered in a right foot drive from 20 yards as Town opened the scoring for the fifth time in six games.
Edwards went close to adding a second after the break while Daryl Murphy hit the woodwork as Town picked up three vital points.

Town boss Roy Keane made four changes to the side that went down at Peterborough in midweek. Shane O'Connor and goalkeeper Brian Murphy were handed their League debuts, with David Wright and Edwards returning to the line-up.

Murphy was immediately in the action, beating out a powerful volley from Luke Varney inside the first 30 seconds, O'Connor then showing good pace at the other end to get beyond Frankie Simek but Lee Grant plucked his cross off Jon Walters' head.

Damien Delaney headed wide from Edwards' long throw as Town began to edge the possession and Jack Colback fired at Grant after Wright had hammered the ball into the Wednesday box.

Blues got the breakthrough on 15 minutes, Edwards smashing the ball in from 20 yards to leave Grant with no chance.

Grant Leadbitter volleyed wide after Daryl Murphy's cross had been cleared to him on the edge of the box before Wednesday went close to grabbing an equaliser either side of the half hour mark, Tudgay hitting the bar then Murphy producing a brilliant save to keep out Michael Gray's close range effort.

Tudgay went down under a challenge from Gareth McAuley in the box but the optimistic penalty appeals were from the Wednesday fans and not their players.

Delaney hooked over from 18 yards, Leadbitter then sending a curler just wide of the far post after his corner had been returned to him.

Colback, operating on the left of midfield, fired over just before the break but there was still time for Blues to go inches away from grabbing that all important second goal, Murphy hitting the woodwork after O'Connor and Colback had linked up.

Gray curled a free-kick on to the roof of the net after David Norris had tripped Darren Potter in the first minute of the second-half as Wednesday looked for an immediate response.

Grant smothered Colback's drive that took a deflection, then Edwards had a great chance to make it two when he intercepted Etienne Esajas' crossfield pass and galloped half the length of the pitch before arrowing his shot across goal, Grant getting a slight touch to divert it for a corner.

Gray made way for Leon Clarke on 62 minutes in the first change of the game but it was Town that continued to threaten a second goal, Murphy just failing to get enough on his header from Wright's deep cross.

Town needed the other Murphy - Brian - to come to the rescue, the 'keeper diving at the feet of substitute Clarke as the game entered the last 20 minutes.
Wright did well to clear from Clarke inside the Town box, McAuley then heading James O'Connor's corner away from almost under the crossbar.

The Owls made a second change with Sean McAllister replacing Esajas with 10 minutes left on the clock but Town continued to hold firm and Walters thought he had made it two when he headed in from Leadbitter's corner only for referee Mike Russell to penalise the skipper for apparent pushing.

Varney had Sheffield's last effort at goal, an overhead kick that went wide as Murphy marked his debut in the Town goal with a clean sheet.
