JON AT THE DOUBLE

Posted on: Tue 22 Apr 2008

Jon Walters picked up the player of the year award from both his team-mates and the corporate boxholders and sponsors at the Players' Awards Evening tonight.

More than 400 guests were in attendance at Trinity Park to see Jon pick up his awards in a night that saw members of Town's trophy winning teams from the last 50 years in attendance.

A legend in Blue, Ray Crawford was there to represent the 1962 Championship winning side, while the 1978 FA Cup heroes enjoying the evening included Wembley matchwinner Roger Osborne, skipper Mick Mills and midfield maestro John Wark.

Mick and Warkie were key members of the Town side that conquered Europe in 1981 and they were joined at the event by Alan Brazil, another of Town's European aristocrats.

The 1992 Second Division Champions were represented by Chris Kiwomya, Mick Stockwell and Simon Milton, who was joint compere for the night - while the 2000 Play-Off winners were out in force - Jim Magilton, Fabian Wilnis, Richard Naylor and John McGreal recalling their Wembley memories.

Goal of the season went to Pablo Counago for his brilliant backheel against Charlton while Danny Haynes was rewarded for his progress this year with the John Kerridge Memorial Trophy for the most improved player at Portman Road this season.

Another young Blue to receive silverware was Jordan Rhodes, who scooped the Harold Smith Trophy as the most improved Academy player of the year.
