JIM'S THANKS TO FANS

Posted on: Wed 01 Oct 2008

Jim Magilton had praise for the Town fans after admitting his side were far from their best in the 3-0 win over Barnsley.

Goals from Jon Stead, Owen Garvan and Ivan Campo gave Blues victory and stretched the unbeaten run to five games with Barnsley's highly rated 'keeper Heinz Muller having a night to forget.

"We started jittery and the nerves from the players seemed to work its way through to the fans," said the Town boss to Ipswich World. "But they stayed with us and we needed that. They take great credit for that.

"It wasn't a fantastic performance by us in any way. I'm the first to admit we were well below the standards we set ourselves but we dug out a win.

"Richard Wright was outstanding for us in the first-half and I'm pleased for him. He is a strong character and an honest lad. He's been below the levels he sets himself but tonight he made three or four excellent saves for us.

"It wasn't pretty, we gave the ball away far more than I like but it's three points, five games unbeaten and we're only a couple of points off the Play-Off places so it's not all the gloom and doom that has been painted."
