SHANE LOOKS TO STAY

Posted on: Tue 19 May 2009

Shane Supple has told the Club website that he is closing in on signing a new deal at Portman Road.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international is out of contract at Town but has been offered a new deal by new Blues' boss Roy Keane and has made it clear that he wants to stay at Portman Road.

"I spoke to the manager and he has offered me a new contract and it's just a case of discussing a couple of things with the Club," Shane told the Club website.

"I want to stay and I'm sure it will all be sorted out very soon but I'm not signing just to sit around as back up 'keeper.

"The manager has said that everyone will get a chance to show what they can do and it's an opportunity for me to impress him and press for a place in the team for the start of the season.

"There are players that he will not have seen play before and who have been out of the picture here who will be looking to stake a claim to play and I will be one of them.

"I get on really well with Wrighty (Richard Wright) and I was really pleased for him last season. He was playing well and ended up skippering the team but I want to put as much pressure as possible on him for his place next year."
