BOSS ON PRE-SEASON PREPARATION
Posted on: Tue 30 Jun 2009
Town will include a warm weather training camp in Portugal as part of the build up to the new season.
Roy Keane will take his squad abroad for a few days after Blues take on Finn Harps in the first friendly of the summer on Tuesday, July 7.
The players report back for pre-season training on Thursday and the Town boss has emphasised the importance of getting the right combination of preparation work before the big kick-off at Coventry on August 9.
"I'm pleased with our plans for pre-season, including the training camp in Portugal," Roy told the Club website.
"Things have moved on from the days when players would come back and run up hills for 10 miles. There is more of a scientific approach to pre-season now and I've moved with the times in that respect.
"But I've also got a bit of an old school approach as well and sometimes it will come down to doing some running at the training ground.
"With players having seven or eight weeks off, you do have to be careful with injuries - the tendons, muscle tissue, fibres - so we will build up nicely.
"We have got the game at Finn Harps next week and will be taking a decent squad with us. I'll look to give as many of the players as I can a run out but I don't want to keep making changes and slow the game down so we will look at half-time as a chance to change things around a bit."
