BOSS WELCOMES ALBION TEST

Posted on: Fri 21 Aug 2009

Roy Keane is looking for his players to rise to the challenge of taking on the pre-season favourites for promotion when Town travel to West Brom at the weekend.

The Baggies are among a clutch of clubs on seven points from three games at the top of the Championship table and the Blues' boss is aware of the task ahead at the Hawthorns.

"We have had West Brom watched over the last couple of games and they have played some excellent football," Roy told Ipswich Player.

"It's obviously a big test for us but from our point of view it's a good game. West Brom are among the favourites to be promoted and have confirmed that the way they have started and I'm looking for the players to go out and relax and enjoy their football.

"We have not got up and running yet and we certainly have to improve in terms of results and in the quality of our play as well.

"We can't keep giving ourselves mountains to climb by conceding two goals so we have to defend better generally. We have to take care of the ball better and we also have to start taking our chances. Against Palace the other night, even though we didn't play well we created chances in the last 15 minutes so we have to find someone to stick the ball in the net.

"We will find out about the character of the players we have at this Club over the next few weeks and months."

Town will be without Jaime Peters, who is still sidelined with an ankle injury while David Norris and Luciano Civelli are long term absentees. Ben Thatcher will also be missing as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

West Brom skipper Jonathan Greening has joined Fulham on loan for the season, with 'keeper Scott Carson taking over the armband. Graeme Dorrans is suspended while Gianni Zuiverloon is out with a hamstring strain. Ishmael Miller is out with a knee problem and James Morrison and Neil Clement are also on the sidelines.

Kick-off at Portman Road is 5.20pm with the game covered live on Sky TV, with online radio commentary on Ipswich Player.

The West Brom matchday programme includes a tribute to Sir Bobby Robson , along with an interview with John Wark.
