ARRAN LOOKS TO GRAB SECOND CHANCE

Posted on: Fri 21 Aug 2009
Arran Lee-Barrett is hoping to make an impact at Portman Road after being given a second opportunity with the Club.

The 25-year-old Ipswich born 'keeper has signed a short term contract with Blues following the retirement of Shane Supple from football and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to West Brom.

Arran was in the Town Academy side alongside Darren Bent, Darren Ambrose and Ian Westlake but was released at 15.

"It was obviously very disappointing for me when the Club released me but it's great to be back now and hopefully I can show what I can do," the former Cardiff, Coventry and Hartlepool 'keeper told the Club website.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for me and I'm grateful to the manager for the chance. The challenge for me now is to try and impress him and win a longer contract."

Arran was released by Hartlepool at the end of last season after being first choice for much of the campaign and made a phone call to goalkeeping coach Jim Hollman that eventually led to his stay with Blues.

"I suppose it's a case of being in the right place at the right time," adds the 'keeper.

"I asked Jim if I could train with Ipswich a few weeks back and the manager agreed. I've known Jim for a long time, we worked together when I was a youth team player at Norwich before I joined Cardiff.

"With Shane leaving this week, I got a call from the manager offering me a chance here and grabbed it. It's a great opportunity for me to join a top club. I can only benefit from training alongside Richard Wright but I want to push him for his place as much as I can."
