BOSS' CHALLENGE TO STRIKERS
Posted on: Fri 06 Nov 2009
Roy Keane has challenged his strikers to nail down a position in the side by hitting the goal trail.
Jon Walters is Town's top scorer with four this season, two of them resulting from penalties while Pablo Counago, Jon Stead and Tamas Priskin have shared four goals between them. Teenager Connor Wickham bagged a brace in the Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury.
"When we talk about work rate, our front players have been outstanding in that area but we need at least one of our strikers to start finishing with a bit more consistency," the Town boss told the Club website.
"None of our players have really done that so we are putting demands on them - and they should enjoy that - to say prove you're the number one striker at this Club.
"Two more strikers might get their chance at Reading on Saturday and hopefully they will take it."
