CONFIDENT JON

Posted on: Fri 11 Dec 2009

Jon Stead is confident he can score the goals that will help take Town up the table.

The former England U21 international has forced his way back into the side after being out of the squad earlier in the campaign and has bagged three goals in his last seven games.

But Blues have managed only 19 League goals in 20 League games this term and have failed to score in three of the last four matches.

"I feel 100 per cent confident in my ability to score goals if I continue to get in the right positions," says Jon in an interview in Saturday's matchday programme.

" If you miss a chance, you've got to keep going because there is always going to be another one.

"I always believe that I will get two or three chances in a game and it's about converting them. The most important thing when you are a striker and not scoring is to keep doing the right things. Don't start trying to change the way you play. You can almost do too much during those times."

Jon is adamant that Town are heading in the right direction though despite Blues' lack of firepower.

"We should have won at Bristol last weekend and it was the same against Peterborough on Tuesday night," he adds.

"We have made progress and the fact that we left Ashton Gate disappointed with just a point shows that we are moving forward.

"We're unbeaten now in nine games but that said, it doesn't matter how well we think we are playing, we are still in the bottom three and we know that it's results that count now."

Jon also reveals the game that may have saved his Town career in an exclusive and extended interview in the matchday programme, which also features interviews with Damien Delaney, Owen Garvan and David Wright plus Roy Keane's column.
