GARETH'S WARNING OVER FOX FRYATT

Posted on: Fri 08 Jan 2010

Gareth McAuley has warned his team-mates of the threat carried by Leicester's leading scorer Matty Fryatt as he looks forward to his return to the Walkers Stadium.

Sunday's visit to the midlands will be the Town defender's first game back at the Foxes since leaving them to head for Portman Road in the summer of 2008 and he knows all about the danger that Fryatt carries after playing alongside the striker in his time at Leicester.

Fryatt has already bagged 12 goals this terms and Gareth told the Club website: "I have seen close up in training every day what a top player Matty is.

"He has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs lately so you never know, he might not play against us! But he's a good finisher, a good player and he has shown that this season and we've got to make sure we are alert to the danger he carries."

Gareth made 84 appearances in his time at the Walkers Stadium before leaving to join Town following their relegation to League One at the end of the 2007/08 season.

But under new boss Nigel Pearson, the Foxes bounced back to the Championship at the first attempt and have carried the momentum on into this season.

"They were in a mess with the number of players that were at the club that last year," adds Gareth.

"But they had a lot of players that left after relegation and I was delighted to see the club do so well last season. The players have carried that on this year and are having a good run.

"They are very organised and solid and showed that at Portman Road at the start of the season and we know it will be a difficult game for us but we're all looking forward to it."

Sunday's game kicks-off at 3pm with live commentary on Ipswich Player.
