Daryl Murphy is hoping he can score the goals to help Town climb up the table and boost his international chances at the same time.

The 26-year-old striker marked his debut for Blues with a goal after just 22 seconds in Town's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend.

The goal was Daryl's first in 45 games, since he scored for Sunderland against Wigan in February 2008, but he has spent much of that time playing on the left of midfield.

"I know my goals record doesn't look but I haven't had a chance to play in my best position for a while," Daryl tells the Club website.

"I've spent a lot of time on the left and I think I've been wasted out there. The manager has said that he wants to use me up front and I'm hoping to get a run in the side in that position and obviously score goals here."

The striker is also hoping to rekindle his international career, having won the last of his nine caps for the Republic of Ireland against Serbia in the summer of 2008.

"I have not played for Ireland for while and although I'd obviously love to be involved, I can't complain about that at all," added Daryl.

"My first priority is doing well for Ipswich but if I can do well here and score some goals then that can only help me at international level."
