INTERNATIONAL BOW FOR TOMMY

Posted on: Thu 04 Mar 2010

Tommy Smith made his debut for New Zealand in their 2-0 defeat by Mexico last night.

The 19-year-old defender, who is currently on loan at Brentford, played the full 90 minutes in the friendly in front of a 90,000 crowd at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Tommy is hoping to win a place in New Zealand's squad for this summer's World Cup finals.

David Healy won his 79th cap for Northern Ireland in their 1-0 defeat in a friendly in Albania while Owen Garvan skippered the Republic of Ireland U21s in their 2-1 loss to Armenia in a European Championship qualifier in Dublin.
