Damien Delaney leant his support this week to a brave woman who is to take part in a night-time charity walk from Portman Road. Damien met Town season ticket holder Julie Collis, aged 42, of Ipswich, who has breast cancer but is determined to take part in St Elizabeth Hospice's Midnight Walk, which starts and finishes at the ground on Saturday May 22nd.
The Town defender said: "I'm really impressed that Julie is determined to participate in the St Elizabeth Hospice Midnight Walk this May. We're all backing her to get through this difficult time so that she is fit enough to take part. I visited the hospice just before Christmas and think the work it does is incredible and I hope that loads of people sign up for the walk, whether as participants or volunteers"
The ladies-only sponsored walk takes place a month after Julie is due to have a mastectomy and she will be in the midst of radiotherapy treatment. Julie, whose favourite player is Damien Delaney, said: "My dad first took me to an Ipswich Town game when I was aged seven and I am a big fan. I was the Town mascot when I was 11. It was great to come and meet my favourite player and he has spurred me on even more to make sure I finish the Midnight Walk. It will be a good fun night and a great way of supporting St Elizabeth Hospice."
The players will be wearing Midnight Walk t-shirts as they warm up before tomorrow evening's home game against Cardiff City and collectors from the hospice will be around outside the stadium before kick off to take any financial donations.
