SHANE'S THANKS TO FANS

Posted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010

Shane O'Connor has thanked the Town fans and his team-mates after impressing on his home debut in Tuesday's win over Cardiff.

The 19-year-old made his third start for Blues after appearing in the trips to Sheffield Wednesday and Scunthorpe and loved every minute of it.

"The manager and staff said just go out there and enjoy it and that's what I did," said Shane in an interview in Saturday's matchday programme.

"I got a couple of good early touches and that helped my confidence. I was up against Chris Burke, who is a really good player but the staff said that he wouldn't track my runs. I tested that out a bit early on and they were right and that gave me the freedom to get forward as much as I could.

"The lads really helped me. Damo [Damien Delaney], Gareth and Jack were talking to me all the time and the fans were great to me.

"I could sense it sometimes when I had the ball that they wanted me to go on a run. I can remember one time appearing on the right wing, god knows what I was doing there but they got behind me and I just kept going and won a throw down by the corner."

Shane is hoping to keep his place for Saturday's game with Scunthorpe but is far from getting carried away by his breakthrough into the side after joining the Club on a one year deal in the summer.

"It's great being in and around the first-team but I know football can change very quickly. If I don't keep working hard at my game and improving, what I have achieved so far will count for nothing."
