CAPS FOR DUO AND A REST FOR CONNOR

Posted on: Tue 25 May 2010

Jaime Peters and Tommy Smith were both in international action today while Connor Wickham's England booked a semi-final showdown with France at the U17 European Championship.

Jaime was a second-half substitute for Canada in their 5-0 defeat by Diego Maradona's Argentina in a friendly in Buenos Aires.

It was Argentina's final game before they head for South Africa and next month's World Cup. Lionel Messi missed the game through injury.

Tommy Smith won his second cap for New Zealand, also as a second-half substitute in their defeat by Australia in Melbourne.

The All Whites went down 2-1 and will now head to Austria for a training camp where they will take on Serbia and Slovenia in friendlies, then Chile before they get their 2010 World Cup campaign underway against Slovakia on June 15.

Connor was an unused substitute for England U17s as they completed their group with a third win in three games, 2-1 against Turkey.

Manager John Peacock made seven changes to the side that beat the Czech Republic and Greece in their earlier group games, with a last four place already assured before kick-off.

England's win means a semi-final showdown with France on Thursday.
