BOSS DELIGHTED FOR FANS

Posted on: Sat 04 Feb 2012

Paul Jewell paid tribute to the Town fans after Michael Chopra's last minute goal gave Blues a 3-2 win at the Ricoh Arena.

Town came from 2-1 down at the break with Chopra levelling the scores after Lee Martin's penalty had been saved by Joe Murphy before heading in the winner from Andy Drury's cross.

"It was nice for us to score right at the end for a change and it was a terrific goal as well," said the Town boss.

"We started the game well and got in front through Jet [Jay Emmanuel-Thomas] and we were in control. Then we gave away two silly goals. Sonks said he was appealing for offside when the ball hit him for the handball and then they scored right on half-time.

"But we responded well in the second-half. We took the game to them. Lee said he was nudged over for the penalty and Chops was really sharp to score when the penalty was saved.

"It was end to end for the last 15 minutes and both teams went for the win. We had a few scary moments but we had our chances as well and Chops could have had four goals.

"That was the coldest I have ever been at a football game but we're obviously delighted with the win. I'm pleased for the players but I'm especially pleased for the fans. To see so many of them make their way to the game in this weather is amazing. They have had to watch some dross in the time I've been here so I'm delighted they have something to celebrate on the journey home."
