Town's new goalkeeping coach Andy Rhodes says he would have walked to Suffolk for the chance to work for Ipswich.

The 39-year-old former Barnsley, Oldham, Dunfermline and St. Johnstone keeper was appointed last month to replace the long-serving Malcolm Webster, who has joined former Blues boss George Burley at Derby County.

Rhodes, who played under Joe Royle at Oldham in the early 1990s, jumped at the chance of linking up again with his former boss.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for me, especially linking up with Joe and Willie Donachie again from my Oldham days," he told the official Club website.

"The opportunity to work at Ipswich was too good to miss. There was no decision to make really, it was a question of 'shall I start walking down now'?

"The facilities here are magnificent, as a player it is just what you want. You'd love coming in to work in the morning, you'd never want to leave."

Joe Royle was delighted to welcome Andy to the Club, adding: "Andy's a great enthusiast, he's already worked a few days with the keepers and they are getting on like a house on fire.

"Like all keepers he's slightly insane, but nicely so! I am pleased to have him on board."
