Jim backs Jason for skipper

Posted on: Wed 17 Nov 2004

Jim Magilton has backed Jason De Vos to be a future skipper of Town.

Current captain Jim looks certain to miss out on Saturday's opening game of the season after sustaining a thigh injury.

Canadian international Jason will skipper the team in his absence against Gillingham, if he comes through a training session today with no reaction to a knee problem picked up in Monday's friendly win over Osasuna.

"Jason has skippered teams wherever he has played and the position would sit very easily on his shoulders here," Jim told the Club website.

"He' settled in here very well, is a good professional, a good talker and a good organiser and we need that sort of player here, especially as we have lost John McGreal and Matt Elliott has gone back to Leicester.

"I certainly see him as a future skipper of Ipswich Town."
