Town Chairman David Sheepshanks has reacted to reports in the local press regarding Charlton's offer for Darren Bent that was rejected by the Club.

The reports indicated that the Club had agreed a price for the striker with the Addicks but then had a change of mind.

Talking to the Club website, the Chairman said: "Last week Charlton Athletic Football Club made an official approach for Darren Bent.

"Contrary to reports and speculation in the local press, no agreement was at anytime reached between the clubs.

"An offer was made, given careful consideration by the Board, and declined.

"There have been no further discussions since."
