Joe targets defender for Christmas

Posted on: Wed 15 Dec 2004

Joe Royle has put signing a defender on loan at the top of his Christmas list with Town facing five games in 14 days over the festive period.

The Blues' boss has been keen on adding to his small squad through the loan market for much of this campaign and with the heavy schedule of games coming up, he has made further enquiries to boost his options.

"We have brought Darren Currie in and that has strengthened us in midfield and has proved quite timely with Kevin Horlock suspended for the Wigan game," Joe told Ipswich World.

"But I still feel we are short of cover at the back should we pick up a suspension or an injury or both with so many games coming up.

"So I would like to bring a defender in and it's not impossible that we could have someone here before Christmas.

"I have spoken to one club in particular about a player this week and we shall see what develops.

"I wouldn't rule out bringing in another front player as well if we get a chance although we do have four strikers available."
