James Scowcroft is hoping to win a permanent contract at Town after joining the Club on loan from Leicester until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old striker has returned to Portman Road after Foxes' boss Craig Levein and Joe Royle agreed a loan deal following Town's 2-1 win over Leicester on Saturday.

The move follows news that Shefki Kuqi will be out of action for at least a month with a gash above his knee.

Scowie - looking for move

It will be Scowie's second spell at Portman Road after he progressed through the youth ranks at the Club and went on to make 247 appearances for Town before heading to the Walkers Stadium in 2001.

And he's hoping to make the switch a permanent one, telling Ipswich World: "That has to be my aim. If everything goes well I'd like to make the move a long term one.

"I'm here until the end of the season and hopefully I can win a contract but at the moment, I'm concentrating on taking it one game at a time.

"There are a few familiar faces from my time here before but I've been away nearly four years and the place has certainly changed a lot since then, both at the training ground and at the stadium."

Scowie accepts that his stay at Leicester looks to be over whatever happens in his loan spell at Portman Road.

He is out of contract in the summer and adds: "It's a funny time for me because I have never been in this situation before where I don't know where my future lies.

"There is a new manager at the club now and there are plenty of comings and goings but it looks as though I have played my last game for Leicester.

"My family are still based in the midlands though so I will be doing a lot of travelling over the next three months.

"We can't all move back down here again until I know whether it's a permanent move or not."
