Darren Bent has been voted the third best player outside the Premiership in a poll conducted by leading football magazine, FourFourTwo.

The monthly title spoke to a cross section of managers, players, supporters and sports journalists to produce a list of the top 50 players in the Championship and Leagues One and Two.

Reading midfielder Steve Sidwell finished top of the pile with Wigan striker Nathan Ellington in second and Darren in third.

Darren Currie finished 43rd with Jim Magilton and Shefki Kuqi also receiving votes but not enough to book a place in the half century.

Darren scores against
Sidwell's Reading

Sidwell and Ellington both voted for Benty as their number one with the Reading player saying: "He was my first choice. He's a young, athletic striker who scores goals and having played with him for the England U21s, I'm sure he would grace the Premiership."
Sunderland's Julio Arca had the Town frontman and Shefki in his top five while former England skipper and now Wolves midfielder Paul Ince voted for Blues' skipper Jim as his main man.

The poll is published in FourFourTwo's April edition which is out now.
