Fabian: Never a penalty

Posted on: Sat 05 Mar 2005

Fabian Wilnis was adamant that the penalty awarded to Wigan for his challenge on Nathan Ellington should never have been given as Town went down at the JJB Stadium.

The Dutchman was adjudged to have brought down the Latics' frontman on 42 minutes with Ellington converting the spot-kick himself.

"I went for the ball and he was already falling before I made contact," Fabian told the Club website from the team bus after the game.

"It was also outside the box when I made the challenge so there are two reasons it shouldn't have been given.

"But I have to say that Wigan deserved to win. They created the better chances and could have been ahead before they got the penalty.

"Their front two were a real handful all game and made it very difficult for us while we created very little at the other end.

"We need a goal from somewhere at the moment. We didn't look like scoring at all and if our front players can't get one, we need to find one from somewhere else."
