TOWN WAIT ON DAMIEN APPEAL

Posted on: Tue 16 Mar 2010

Roy Keane is likely to wait for the outcome of Damien Delaney's appeal over his red card before confirming his side for tonight's game against Watford.

The Republic of Ireland international faces an immediate three match ban if the appeal over his dismissal against Scunthorpe is unsuccessful, with the possibility of an additional extra game if the FA disciplinary committee deem Town contesting the decision as frivolous.

The Club are confident that won't be the case and Damien has been included in the initial squad for the game with the appeal to be heard at 1.00pm today.

Grant Leadbitter is available after completing a two match suspension, with Tommy Smith also in contention after Blues cut short his loan stay at Brentford.

"We will see what happens with Damien but we have options and that's the importance of having a squad," Town boss Roy told the Club website.

"Grant missed two games and we won them both yet we know what an influence he has been this season. It's always about your squad, especially in this league when you are playing two games a week.

"You need that competition for places and we have seen that in the forwards. Murph [Daryl Murphy] and David Healy joined us in January and they are good players and that's lifted the challenge for Pablo [Counago] and Connor Wickham

"They have looked sharper in the time they have had on the pitch and have trained well so we have four strikers pushing for two starting positions. That's healthy for the football club."

Connor grabbed the headlines with the last minute winner against Scunthorpe, his first League goal for the Club and will be hoping to start at Vicarage Road this evening.

"Connor has done well for us coming off the bench but the only way you are going to see what he's like from the start of the game is to give him a start so we will see," adds the boss.

It was a last minute goal that cost Blues three points against the Hornets earlier this season but Watford are on a slide down the table and have joined a pack of clubs too close to the bottom for comfort.

"It happens in football," says Roy. "They had a good run at the start of the season and now they are having a difficult time.

"They are having a sticky patch but have got some good players and it will be a difficult game for us."

Kick-off at Vicarage Road is 7.45pm
