TOWN 4 HAVERHILL 0

Posted on: Wed 11 Nov 2009

Reggie Lambe saw red but Town progressed to the next round of the Suffolk Premier Cup with two goals each from Caolan Lavery and Billy Clark.

A young Blues side started the game strongly, having most of the possession in the opening stages but couldn't make it pay, Clark swinging one dangerous ball into the box but no Town player there to convert.

Haverhill had one of their few chances on six minutes when Louis Harper played in Harry Halls down the left wing but he ran the ball out of play before being able to get his cross in.

Town went close to opening the scoring soon after, David Cawley seeing his header hit the inside of the post and bounce along the goalline before being cleared away.

Blues took the lead midway through the first-half, Lavery latching on to a long pass and rounding 'keeper Dave Walton before sliding the ball into the empty net.

Haverhill responded with Lee Salmons forcing Ian McLoughlin into a low save to his left before Blues were reduced to 10 men on the half hour, Lambe sent-off for stamping on Stuart Kingham.

Town added to the advantage though with Clark sending in a 25 yard free-kick that went in off the bar on 46 minutes.

Clark settled the tie on 63 minutes when he exchanged passes with Rory McKeown before chipping the ball into the net and Blues finished off the scoring eight minutes from time, Lavery grabbing his second after Cawley's pass.
