NORWICH 0 TOWN 1

Posted on: Wed 10 Feb 2010

Town won a tightly contested reserve team derby at Carrow Road thanks to an Ed Upson penalty just before half time.

The midfielder sent Declan Rudd the wrong way from the spot after Reggie Lambe had been brought down by the Norwich 'keeper.

Brian Murphy made his first appearance for Town since arriving in January and was soon tested by Josh Dawkin, whose shot was deflected into the 'keeper's hands.

Town came close to breaking the deadlock in the 11th minute when Shane O'Connor hit a shot from the left of the 18 yard box but Rudd tipped the ball over the bar.

Soon after the Canaries had a chance to take the lead but George Francomb hit his shot wide of the right post, while at the other end Carlos Edwards found himself with the ball in the 18 yard box but failed to hit the target.

Just as half-time was approaching, Town got the breakthrough, Lambe was taken down inside the box by Rudd who was subsequently booked and Upson did the rest from the spot.

The second half started much the same as the first with most of the play in midfield and little chances for either side.

Devann Yao was booked on the hour mark after a late sliding challenge, the Canaries making the first substitutions of the game with Jens Berthal Askou being replaced by Tyree Clarke and Michael Spillane making way for Patrick Drmola while for Town, David Cawley was substituted by Luke Hyam.

Edwards fired over after O'Connor's cross was punched to him by Rudd, Lambe then shooting straight at the Norwich 'keeper after good work by O'Connor.

Town made a second change with Billy Clark replacing Upson in the 77th minute and the substitute had the ball in the net soon after but not before the offside flag was raised.

Alan Quinn sent a volley just over then O'Connor brought another save from Rudd as Blues finished on the front foot.
