TOWN 1 WYCOMBE 2

Posted on: Wed 24 Feb 2010

Richard Wright returned to action for the first time since damaging knee ligaments in the win at Cardiff in November but couldn't stop the reserves going down to Wycombe.

Jerome Fedrico clinched the win for the visitors in added on time after Ed Upson had cancelled out Luke Oliver's opener.

The match started evenly with Wycombe, who included former Blue Matt Bloomfield in their line-up, slightly the better of the two teams with an early chance falling to Matthew Phillips who blazed his shot over the bar.

The pressure paid off for Wanderers when Lewwis Spence's corner was deflected to the back post by the head of Upson and was headed into the back of the net by skipper Oliver.

Town went up a gear after the goal and Devann Yao had an effort blocked and Jack Ainsley's strike went inches wide of the left post after he latched onto a good ball over the top from Troy Brown.

The pressure continued to build on the Wanderers defence and a ball over the top from Lee Martin fell to Reggie Lambe who had his shot blocked on the line.

Town finally got the goal they were after when Yao touched the ball back to Upson in the 18 yard box and the midfielder drove his shot into the back of the net to make it 1-1 at half time.

Town started the second-half as they ended the first with Ronan Murray having his long range effort saved by Steven Arnold just after the restart.

Brown was booked in the 53rd minute after a late sliding challenge and Town came close to taking the lead through an Upson free-kick but his shot hit the bar and was cleared away.

Town had other chances to take the lead but Martin and Yao couldn't put their openings away, with Ainsley failing to find the net from an Alan Quinn corner when left free in the box.

Quinn, Lambe and Murray all had shots saved while at the other end, Wright - who played 90 minutes on his comeback - denied Stuart Beavan in a one on one.

Just as it looked as if it was going to finish honours even, Fedrico cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable strike from 20 yards that went in off the bar leaving Wright no chance.
