Luke quickly established himself as a popular figure with both the players and the fans after a number of wholehearted displays in a Blue shirt, before he suffered a serious injury in the Play-Off semi-final first leg against Norwich.
The forward has worked extremely hard with the Town medical team to return to fitness and made his second 'debut' for Town in the win over QPR. Having then been released at the end of the 2015/16 season, he re-signed for the Club at the beginning of the following campaign, penning a six month deal to mark his third spell with the Blues.
Varney began his career at non-League side Quorn before joining Crewe Alexandra and emerging as one of the brightest young talents outside of the Premier League.
He then secured a switch to Charlton Athletic, spending two years at The Valley before moving to Derby County- initially on loan.
Loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool- who he played for in the Premier League- followed before Luke moved to the south coast to join Portsmouth.
He also turned out for Leeds and Blackburn before continuing his career at Portman Road.
