Jackson's last gasp goal gives Town the points

Kayden Jackson gave Town the points with a dramatic winner in added on time.

The striker volleyed in from close range after Wimbledon failed to deal with Cole Skuse's lofted ball into the box.

James Norwood scored for a second successive game but it didn’t look enough to give Town the three points after Nesta Guinness-Walker had given Wimbledon a half-time lead until Jackson took centre stage.

James Wilson came in for Luke Chambers in one of three changes to the side that drew with Peterborough at the weekend, Andre Dozzell and Idris El Mizouni also included in the starting line-up. New loan arrival, Anthony Giorgiou, was among the substitutes.

Tomas Holy had to be alert to force the ball away from danger as Wimbledon went straight into the heart of the Town defence from kick-off, Janoi Donacien then in the right place to clear.

Danny Rowe’s cross was cleared in Blues’ first foray into Wimbledon territory, Flynn Downes sweeping up at the other end, then Norwood threatened to get on the end of a long ball but Terell Thomas was equal to the task.

Holy gathered from Scott Wagstaff’s header as Wimbledon continued to probe Town’s backline, Norwood failing to make contact with a volley after Rowe had fed him in the box as the half hour passed without either ‘keeper really tested.

Rod McDonald fired well over from 30 yards, Downes’ chip had too much on it for Norwood, Blues then having a flurry of corners in quick succession with Skuse’s header saved by Nathan Trott.

The Wimbledon ‘keeper stayed strong seconds later to deny Norwood in a one on one after a superb pass from Dozzell. Downes tricked his way past two Dons defenders, his cross cleared as Norwood looked to pounce as Town began to increase the tempo but it was Wimbledon who opened the scoring on 41 minutes, Michael Folivi setting up Guinness-Walker who sidefooted home from 15 yards to give the visitors the lead at the break.

Georgiou replaced El Mizouni for the second-half in Town’s first change, Donacien yellow carded inside the first minute for a foul on Guinness-Walker.

Georgiou was immediately in the action, winning a free-kick on the edge of the Dons’ box, the Tottenham loanee whipping in a delivery that was met by Luke Woolfenden but the Academy graduate’s effort was blocked.

Holy plucked Scott Wagstaff’s cross out of the air as Wimbledon looked for that second goal, Giorgiou dancing around the back of the Dons at the other end but his cross fell into the grateful hands of Trott.

Downes was inches over from 20 yards before Town made a second change with Dozzell making way for Jackson on the hour.

Georgiou gave Blues an extra attacking dimension with his trickery down the left, Jackson’s pace also a threat and it needed a timely challenge from Thomas to prevent the striker levelling the scores.

Downes fired over from range as Town pressed for the equaliser, Norwood’s bullet cross inches away from Jackson then Rowe blasted wide from the angle.

Trott saved from Myles Kenlock before Blues made a final change with Alan Judge on for Rowe, Folivi replaced by Mitchell Pinnock in Dons’ first change.

Judge raced in on goal immediately but a Wimbledon foot cleared the danger before Town levelled 10 minutes from the end when Norwood headed in from a corner.

Blues pressed for a winner, Norwood and Jackson denied but with referee Antony Coggins looking at his watch, Jackson struck to set the party going at Portman Road.
