TOWN 1 LINCOLN 1

9 March 2021

Points shared with Imps

Blues were held by Lincoln City in Paul Cook's first game in the Portman Road dugout.

Morgan Rogers gave the Imps the lead going into the interval, but a James Wilson header levelled the contest in the second half.

Paul Cook made three changes to Saturday’s defeat to Gillingham with Jack Lankester, Flynn Downes and Gwion Edwards all named in the starting XI.

The visitors brought the game to life after 20 minutes. TJ Eyoma’s low drilled cross from the right caused panic in the box and Toto Nsiala’s outstretched leg saw the ball nick off the foot of the post.

Just before the half hour mark, Manchester City loanee, Rogers picked the ball up on the left flank and drove inside before unleashing a powerful strike from 25 yards out which flew into the top corner to give the Imps the lead.

Flynn Downes was tripped on the corner of the Lincoln box, and Andre Dozzell took the resultant free-kick, which was clipped to the far post where Nsiala climbed highest but headed just wide.

Dozzell then forced Alex Palmer in the Imps goal into his first save of the evening with a curling free-kick from the corner of the area that was heading in but Palmer beat the ball away.

Paul Cook made a triple change on the hour mark, with Troy Parrott, Alan Judge and Keanan Bennetts replacing Lankester, Teddy Bishop and Edwards respectively as Blues hunted for an equaliser.

In a game that lacked clear-cut chances, Blues were level with just under 20 minutes of the 90 remaining. Dozzell’s free-kick was headed back across the face of goal by Luke Chambers and Wilson was on hand to head the ball home.

Blues certainly looked the more threatening of the two teams in the second half, but the visitors almost knicked it late on after a mistake by Nsiala allowed Brennan Johnson in on goal, but the Tomas Holy stood strong to deny the Lincoln forward.

Kayden Jackson entered the fray in injury time, but it ended with the spoils shared at Portman Road.
