U18 | TOWN 0 BLACKPOOL 2

30 January 2018

U18s exit the FA Youth Cup

Tristan Nydam completed 82 minutes as Town’s U18s exited the FA Youth Cup in the fifth round at the hands of Blackpool.

Ross Marshall and Jack Lankester went close for Town but ultimately Blues were left frustrated at Portman Road as the visitors ran out 2-0 winners.

Blackpool took an early lead with Rowan Roache’s free-kick taking a significant deflection and beating a stranded Mitchell Ware in the Town net.

Blues regrouped and had plenty of possession but in the 23rd minute Blackpool extended their advantage. Roache turning provider as his dangerous cross was tapped home by Owen Watkinson.

Ben Knight looked to get the hosts back into just before the break but his curling effort was saved comfortably by Craig Thordarson.

Town pushed on in the second-half with Lankester’s deflected effort being saved before Marshall headed over from a whipped free-kick.

Alan Lee’s side almost gave themselves hope in the dying stages but substitute Lounes Foudil’s header was somehow clawed off the line.

The Young Blues exit the competition following victories over Everton and Dagenham and Redbridge in the previous rounds.
