TOWN U18S 1 WATFORD 2

25 November 2017

Hornets sting Blues with late winner

A second-half strike from Thomas Hughes wasn’t enough for Town as Alan Lee’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Watford.

Hughes equalised for Blues midway through the second period but 10 minutes from time the visitors regained the advantage and held on for all three points at Playford Road.

Watford took just 11 minutes to find the opener, tricky winger Jubril Adedui cutting inside and feeding striker Ryan Cassidy who fired over Blues shot-stopper Mitchell Ware from inside the penalty area.

That turned out to be the only significant chance of the first-half, with Corrie Ndaba having Town’s best opportunity but heading well over.

After the restart Lee’s side took the game to the Hornets and were rewarded when Hughes was in the right place at the right time to slot home, after Lounes Foudil’s effort was parried by ‘keeper Jamie Lacy.

Town continued to press and could have been ahead when Hughes cut the ball across the penalty area to Jack Lankester, but the forward failed to hit the target.

The hosts were then punished as Reece Miller drilled into the bottom corner in the 80th minute.

Blues had one chance to level late on but Ross Marshall’s header from a Brett McGavin free kick sailed over the crossbar.
