U23 | TOWN V MILLWALL

29 January 2018

A strong side to face Millwall at Playford Road this afternoon

Tom Adeyemi and Adam Webster are set to make their return to action for Town's U23s this afternoon as they take on Millwall at Playford Road (kick-off 1pm).

It will be the first time that midfielder, Tom will have played since the East Anglian Derby back in October, while Adam was an unused substitutes in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Portman Road.

Luke Hyam, Grant Ward and Freddie Sears also look set to be involved as Gerard Nash's side look to get back to winning ways following back-to-back defeats against Sheffield United and West Brom last week.

The Blues currently sit third in the southern group of the Professional Development League having picked up 29 points in their opening 16 matches.

U23 | TOWN 5 MILLWALL 0

29 January 2018

Blues run riot at Playford Road

Town's U23s put last week's defeats behind them as they thrashed Millwall 5-0 at Playford Road this afternoon.

Ben Morris scored twice, while Flynn Downes, Freddie Sears and Aaron Drinan were also on target in very wet conditions at the Blues' training ground.

Adam Webster and Luke Hyam both played the full 90 minutes, while Grant Ward and Sears got 70 minutes under their belt, although there will be some concern over Tom Adeyemi who had to be taken off with just over half an hour on the clock.

In truth, Town were very rarely threatened throughout the game, and could've gone ahead on seven minutes as Sears fashioned a chance for himself, but his final effort was just wide.

Morris was looking threatening, and should have put Gerard Nash's side into the lead midway through the half as he blasted towards goal unchallenged from the centre of the box, but he clipped the crossbar and the ball went over.

It didn't take Morris long to atone for that miss, as less than 60 seconds later he opened the scoring. He turned neatly in the box before squeezing the ball past Ryan Sandford in the Millwall goal, giving Town a 1-0 lead that they would carry into half-time.

It didn't take long for the Blues to double their lead after the break as Downes tapped in Morris' corner at the back-post to mark his return from injury with a goal.

As the weather took a turn for the worse, so did the game as neither side created much during a 15 minute spell where the rain and wind intensified. Morris did force Sandford into two superb saves in a minute, but Town had to wait until the 70th minute to put the game beyond doubt.

Downes intercepted the ball excellently in the midfield before threading the ball through to Sears who lashed the ball into the net.

Less than five minutes later, it was 4-0, and Morris deservedly grabbed his second. Conor McKendry's corner was nearly poked in by Downes, but the ball eventually broke to Morris who found the back of the net.

The goals were flowing now, and Drinan grabbed the fifth on 77 with Morris again playing a pivotal role.

Morris could have had his hat-trick as he burst down the right before his deflected cross may have been crossing the line, but Drinan made sure of it as he headed into an empty net, rounding off a good afternoon for the young Blues.

Town: Perntreou, McLoughlin, Webster, Goteni, Kenlock, Hyam, Adeyemi (Downes, 34), Ward (McKendry, 72), Morris, Sears (Folami, 72), Drinan. Not used: Wright, Webber.
