U23 REPORT | TOWN 8 HULL 0

Town run riot against the Tigers at Portman Road

Danny Rowe grabbed a hat-trick as Town's U23s thrashed Hull City 8-0 at Portman Road.

The winger played just under 75 minutes as he steps up his return from injury while fellow long-term absentee, Emyr Huws played the first-half.

Ben Morris scored twice, while Ben Folami, Idris El Mizouni and Jack Lankester were also on target in a very convincing victory in front of Paul Hurst who was watching from the stands.

It took Gerard Nash's side just 10 minutes to open the scoring through Morris. The striker got on the end of a Shane McLoughlin cross to power a header at goal, only to be denied by a great save, but he made no mistake with the rebound, converting from a yard out.

Two goals in as many minutes quickly took the Blues out of sight. First, Rowe tapped home a delicious Huws cross from close range on 33 minutes before a neat finish from El Mizouni made it 3-0 a minute later.

That was how things stayed until the break, but Town didn't take long to add to their lead in the second-half. Substitute Folami, who replaced Huws at half-time, produced an excellent low finish from the edge of the box to make it four.

Morris doubled his tally five minutes later with a nonchalant finish having been released by a superb pass from McLoughlin before turning provider as his touch set up Lankester perfectly to slam the ball into the corner of the net from the edge of the box to increase the Blues' lead to 6-0.

Rowe's second & third goals then followed with little over five minutes between them as he first finished Lankester's deep cross at the back-post before finding space in the box to meet Josh Emmanuel's cut-back to make it eight on 70 minutes.

There was little goalmouth action in the final 20 minutes, although the visitors did push for a consolation, but Town were excellent under the lights at Portman Road.

Town: Wright, Emmanuel, Ndaba, Smith, Clements, Huws (Folami, 45), El Mizouni (Crowe, 74), McLoughlin, Lankester, Rowe (McKendry, 74), Morris. Not Used: Ware.

Goals: Morris (10, 53); Rowe (33, 64, 70); El Mizouni (34); Folami (49); Lankester (61).
