U23 | TOWN V NOTTINGHAM FOREST

15 April 2019

U23s look to finish regular season on a high

Tom Adeyemi is set to be involved when Town U23s take on Nottingham Forest at Portman Road this evening [kick-off 7pm].

The Blues midfielder, who last turned out for the Club in October 2017 against Norwich, underwent achilles surgery in October last year but will return to action for Gerard Nash's side tonight.

Town have already been confirmed winners of the Professional Development League Two South division and beat Watford 2-1 last time out, while Forest have won their last three games on the spin and sit sixth in the north division.

Tonight's game at Portman Road is the final match of the regular season, with details regarding the U23s' Play-Off fixtures to be announced in due course.

Idris El Mizouni and Tristan Nydam are also set to play a part for Town against Forest.

U23 | TOWN 1 FOREST 4

15 April 2019

Blues end regular season with defeat at Portman Road

Town U23s suffered a 4-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest at Portman Road this evening.

Tom Adeyemi completed 45 minutes for Blues and marked his return from injury with a goal.

The result has no impact on Town's position in the Professional Development League Two South table, as Gerard Nash's side secured top spot 10 days ago and will compete in the Play-Offs later this month.

Town started brightly and were presented with a half-chance in the 11th minute as Adeyemi fired over from just outside the Forest penalty area.

But Blues fell behind seven minutes later when Brennan Johnson curled in a free-kick from 20 yards out.

Approaching the half-hour mark the visitors doubled their advantage. Johnson was again on target, this time with a fine half-volley from longe range that nestled into the bottom corner of the net.

And in the 31st minute Forest made it three. Blues shot-stopper Harry Wright did well to deny Jayden Richardson with a lown save to his right but the loose ball was smashed in by Will Swan.

Eight minutes before half-time Johnson completed his hat-trick with a first-time effort that looped into the net from 12 yards.

Town gave themselves a glimmer of hope just before the break as Adeyemi tapped in from close range following some good work from full-back Bailey Clements.

Chances came much less frequently in the second half as Idris El Mizouni and Kai Brown were presented with the best opportunities for the hosts. The former saw a fierce strike sail inches over the crossbar before Brown came close to reducing the deficit but his low effort took a deflection and hit the side netting.

Blues full-back Barry Cotter was sent off in the dying stages for a second bookable offence.

Town will be in action again when they face the second-placed team from the PDL North division in the Play-Offs at Portman Road.

Details regarding the U23s' upcoming fixtures will be announced in due course.

Town: Wright, Cotter, Patterson, Webber (Z Brown 51'), Clements, Nydam (C), Adeyemi (McGavin 45'), El Mizouni, K Brown, Kasinga-Madia, Oppong.
