Young Blues continue strong start to the season with victory over Coventry
Jordan Roberts, Ben Folami (2) and Jack Lankester were on target as Town's U23s defeated Coventry City at Portman Road this evening.
The win means Town are unbeaten in their last six matches, and currently sit top of the southern group of the Professional Development League.
Gerard Nash's side started the game strongly, and could have had the lead with less than a minute played as Andre Dozzell picked out Folami, but the Aussie's shot was well kept out.
It could have easily been three or four within the first ten minutes, with Roberts having a near-post effort saved & Lankester twice coming close before the deadlock was broken on 11 minutes.
It was an easy finish in the end for Roberts who got away from his man to head home Chris Smith's cross from close range.
Frenchman, Idris El Mizouni shot narrowly over the bar after the ball had broken kindly to him, but with five minutes of the first-half to play, Folami made it 2-0.
Myles Kenlock held the ball up well on the left wing before picking out the run of Folami who finished powerfully at the near post.
The visitors reduced the arrears two minutes later through Jodi Jones who found the net via the post, but Town held a 2-1 lead going into half-time.
The second-half didn't produce as much goalmouth action as the first, but with 20 minutes to play, Lankester made it 3-1 to the Blues. Folami's shot from inside the box was blocked & Lankester found the far corner with a very good finish.
The two-goal cushion appeared to make the closing stages of the game more comfortable for the hosts, and wrapped up the victory with five minutes to play as Dozzell & El Mizouni linked up well on the edge of the box before the former found Folami who fired the ball home.
