Olympian enjoys Portman Road return

Anthony Ogogo has thanked the Town fans for the ovation he and his fellow Olympians received at Portman Road at the weekend.

The boxer and bronze medallist at London 2012 was joined by Team GB members Elena Baltacha,  [tennis and daughter of former Town player Sergei], Harry Martin [hockey], George Pinner [hockey] and Louise Jukes [handball]in a walk around this pitch 15 minutes Saturday’s game against Blackburn got underway.

They were joined by more than 50 torch bearers who carried the Olympic flame around the county.

“It was fantastic to get the chance to walk around the stadium,” Anthony told the Club website.

“The reception we had from everyone was great and we all really enjoyed it. Thanks to Ipswich Town for the opportunity.

“I played at Portman Road when I was about 12 and I’ve been to the ground to watch some games as well. I can remember David Johnson scoring a few here.”

Anthony, a Manchester United fan, also thanked Suffolk County Council for hosting a civic reception for the Olympians and torch bearers before the match.
