Boss looks to bigger picture when loan window opens

Paul Jewell has said that he will add to his squad when the loan window opens, with a view to bringing in players to sign permanently.

The Town boss saw Paul Taylor arrive on a three year deal from Peterborough last night, while Daryl Murphy joined Guirane N’Daw in agreeing to season long loan moves.

“When everyone speaks about the transfer window, it’s as if you can’t add to your squad after 11pm tonight,” Paul told Ipswich Player.

“Premier League clubs can’t but we can from next Saturday and we will do that.

“I know we need at least one new centre-half and I could have probably brought someone in before the window closed but I have to use my experience to make sure we sign the right player, not just any player.

“Sometimes you react to a heavy defeat, or think you have to race against the clock and you make a signing that is a ‘rush’ buy.

“I’ve done that in my career. I need to look at the bigger picture. We’ve got a game tomorrow, then we have two weeks to add to our squad before the next match.

“We will use the loan market. Sometimes you have to think short term but our priority is signing players on loan with a view to making it permanent in January. They will preferably be younger players who we can see staying here for three, four years.”

The Town boss added that he didn’t expect any new arrivals before the window closed tonight.
