We could have had more in the first-half says Mick

Mick McCarthy was delighted with his players after seeing Town leave the Valley with all three points.

First-half goals from DJ Campbell and Daryl Murphy proved enough to give Town the win with former Blue Danny Haynes converting a second-half penalty for Charlton.

DJ Campbell missed a penalty for Blues in a first 45 minutes dominated by Town, with the boss saying: “We were dominate and could have scored more in the first-half.

“DJ persevered after missing the penalty and it was a terrific goal from him. We looked a threat up front and it was a quality goal from Murph as well.

“They were always going to be better after the break and the penalty got them back in the game but I was pleased with the way we defended.

“It was an important win for us and obviously I was delighted with the result and the performance. The players are shattered because they have given everything but then when I look at the stats in terms of work-rate, we’re always up there.”
