New Blue relishing life-changing chance after whirlwind few days
The 19-year-old defender has joined Town from non-League Chippenham Town after impressing for a Blues’ X1 against Nike Academy in a friendly on Monday.
Speaking to Ipswich Player in his first interview as a Town player, the 6ft 3in left-back said: “It’s just been a crazy time really.
“This time last week I was putting a suit on and going to work as a mortgage broker. Something I have been doing for nine months.
“Then I found out at the end of last week that Ipswich wanted me to come in and play in a friendly.
“The manager was speaking to me as the game was progressing and at half-time. After the game he said he’d like to sign me and here we are. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind.”
Tyrone was at Southampton’s Academy between eight and 15 but was then released and went on to play for Yate Town before joining Chippenham.
“Southampton released me for a number of reasons,” added the teenager.
“They said I wasn’t big enough. There were financial issues as well because they were a League One club then but being released has made me hungrier to succeed.
“I’ve had a few clubs watch me over the last year or so. I went to Hereford for a couple of days but they had a transfer embargo at the time and they had financial problems as well.
“There have been a few clubs said to be interested but nothing has materialised until now. This is a life-changing opportunity for me and I’ve got to make sure I take it.”
