Sobering experience at Palace but Mick aware of task in hand before defeat

Mick McCarthy said the defeat at Palace has not changed his thoughts on the job in hand at Portman Road.

After Saturday’s win at  Birmingham, Blues came crashing back to earth at Selhurst Park with the Eagles going to the top of the Championship with a 5-0 win.

“If people thought it was going to be all sweetness and light after the win at Birmingham, they were sadly misguided,” said the Town boss.

“It was a sobering experience, to lose in that manner but it has not changed my thoughts on the job here. I was fully aware of the task ahead before tonight.

“Palace are a different proposition to Birmingham to be fair. They are a very good side and full of confidence.

“I thought we could take them on and for a while it worked. There wasn’t anything in the first-half but we made a mistake for their goal and then plenty more mistakes in the second-half.

“The players have said that they weren’t penalties but players say that. I’ll look at the video before making a judgment on that but I’ve been here five days now and they’ve been a long five days. We’ve got a fair bit of work to do.”
